The aim of experiment was to state the effect of increasing cadmium concentrations on chlorophyll fluorescence and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity as well as determination of cadmium content in examined maize plants. The plants were cultivated in hydroponic cultures with addition of cadmium. The chlorophyll fluorescence parameters showed decrease of Photosystem II photochemical efficiency under the influence of cadmium. Statistically significant increase of SOD activity was found in maize growing on nutrient solution with cadmium addition. The results suggest oxidative stress in leaves of investigated maize caused by the presence of cadmium in nutrient solution
