Contribution of technology on hybrid corn seed production

Increase in corn yield can be made through the use of hybrid corn seed. However the production of hybrid corn seed is more complicated when compares to grain production. Contract farmer system is being implemented in almost of seed companies. So the objectives of this study are to investigate cost and return of corn seed production, esitmate proportion of various inputs spent to all costs incurred in order to determine total factor productivity index of hybrid corn seed production and study on the contribution of technology on single cross three way cross seed production. It was found that net returns from single and three-way crosses were 1,158 and 788.9 Baht per rai respectively. Labor cost was the major cost of production at the proportion of 0.4132. The total productivity index (TFP) was 1.4110. The month of planting and production technique such as plant populations per unit area and parental splitting dates were found to be important factors affecting the yields level of hybrid seed production. Introduction of new technologies which have been well studied can improve efficiency of seed production.
