Effect of harvesting time on seed quality and yield of large-seeded peanuts was studied on two peanut cultivars, namely, Kasetsart 50 and Kaset 1. Field experiments were conducted at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center, Nakhon Ratchasima province in the wet season during August 1994 to January 1995 and the dry season during December 1994 to May 1995. Laboratory tests were operated at the Seed Technology Laboratory, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus, Bangkok. Seed moisture decreased as harvesting was delayed from 100 to 156 DAP. The 142 DAP harvesting of two large-seeded peanut varieties in both wet and dry season gave the best seed quality and seed yield. This harvesting time gave maximum number of mature seed, maximum number of large size seed, maximum number of pod per plant, maximum seed weight, pod and seed yield, shelling percentage, seed germination and seed vigor as determined by germination index, accelerated aging and storage potential. Thus the optimum harvesting time of these two large-seeded peanut varieties is 142 DAP. Dormancy in freshly harvested seed of these two large-seeded peanut varieties was very high but after 6 month storage at room temperature (ambient condition), seed dormancy disappeared.
