Study on larval development of Nepa mantis shrimp Oratosquilla nepa (Latreille, 1825) from egg masses spawned by eyestalk ablation method, it was found that the Nepa mantis shrimp spawned eggs about 4-6 days after the eyestalk was pinches and the egg masses appeared to be oval disc-shape. The female took care of their eggs days after by using the first to fifth thoracopod about 2 days. Then eggs were transferred into egg hatching equipment until the first stage larvae hatchcd. The egg incubation period was about 11 days. The larvae of mantis shrimp were reared on newly hatch brine shrimps. It was found that the hatched larval stage was possibly 12 and lasted about 55 days in water at 30-32 degree C. Each larval stage had only one ecdysis. Ecdysis samples and larvae of each stage were collected for morphological and appendages studied. The results of morphological development in 12 stages of larvae were summarized in the following stage : The first and second larval stage with yolk and variations of thoracopod II, the third larval stage without yolk, oval shape carapace and larger appendages, the forth larval stage angular carapace and most larger appendages, the fifth larval stage bud of pleopod V present, the sixth larval stage bud of median flagellum and antennal flagellum bud present, the seventh larval stage larger median flagellum and antennal flagellum, the eighth larval stage thoracopod III-V and uropod small bud present, the ninth larval stage thoracopod III-V long segmented and uropod biramous, the tenth larval stage thoracopod VI-VIII small bud present, the eleventh larval stage thoracopod VI-VIII biramous and the twelfth larval stage thoracopod VI-VIII longer segmented and forked ventral process of uropod present.
