Pla mooh Khao (Botia modesta Bleeker, 1865) is an economic important fish species in terms of food fish and ornamental ones. Studies on its biology, taxonomy, behavior and ecology had been performed in order to perceive proper information for proper development of this species culture as well as to conserve its own species as long as possible. Studies on both fresh and preserved specimens were done on biology, integument, skeleton, musculature, excretory, respiration, reproduction, circulatory and so on. It was found that Pla Mooh Khao has very small cycloid scales except on head. It has a fairly large bifid suborbital spine in groove under eye and three pair of barbels. Adult fish is greenish grey while juvenile one has 7-9 dark brown transverse bands. This species live in the northeast have bright orange red tail, while ones in the Chao Phraya basin have yellowish to orange tails. It was found that Pla Mooh Khao is either carnivourous or scavenger because they could feed on both lived and dead food as well as food pellet. It is fast swimming fish and is able to turn back and forth swiftly because of their stream - lined bodies. Pla Mooh tended to swim in school and hide themselves under rocks, stones and tree branched. Besides, this fish species is an air-breathing one; they can stay in areas where water is scarce and/or even above water for quite sometimes. Ecology and habitats of this fish in the river and flooding areas, fishing gears and fishing methods were studies. Bamboo traps are major fishing gear which could be catch in large number, especially in the bright day.
