Power requirement for central-drive rotary tiller with walk-behind tractor of 12 PS was tested. Rotary tiller has 18 blades which cut soil in down-cut direction. The shape of a blade likes C and has 550 mm of rotor shaft in width. The walk-behind tractor has 9 forward gears (1(L) 1(H) 2(L) 2(H) 3(L) 3(H) 4, 5 and 6) and 2 backward gears (1(R) and 2(R)). Only 6 forward gears (1(L) 1(H) 2(L) 2(H) 3(L) and 3(H)) were used for finding power requirement for rotary tiller. Average speed was used between 0.209 m/s to 0.568 m/s at engine speed of 2200 rpm. Average measured power of rotary shaft was between 4.931 Kw to 6.856 Kw while the soil-cut depth is 7.9 cm to 15.9 cm. This test can be concluded that the maximum power of rotary shaft was 6.856 Kw at 2(H), average depth was 11.1 cm, its speed was 0.270 m/s and the minimum power of rotary shaft was 4.391 Kw at 1(L), average depth was 15.9 cm, its speed was 0.209 m/s. Additionally, these results can be concluded that power requirement for rotary shaft has relations with the following factors 1. velocity of rotary tiller 2. depth for soil cut 3. velocity of walk-behind tractor, and 4. soil hardness.
