Effect of feeding crude tuna oil in laying hen pullets on lipid composition of egg yolk and laying performance

Experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of feeding crude tuna oil on lipid composition of egg yolk and laying performance. Three hundred 23 WOA Isa Brown pullets were subjected to 5 dietary treatments (0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 percent crude tuna oil) with isonitrogenous and isocaloric for 5 28 day periods. The increase of EPA and DHA levels in egg yolk were observed (P.01) along with the increase of crude tuna oil levels in the diets. The colesterol content of egg yolk decreased in eggs obtained from hens fed crude tuna oil diets after 9 weeks of the trail-Laying hens fed 6 percent crude tuna oil had lower (P.01) egg production and egg mass compared to control group. Crude tuna oil supplemention more than 1.5 percent level reduced (P.05) egg weight and body weight gain. No significant differences were observed among dietary treatments in egg quality, mortality, feed per dozen egg and feed cost per dozen egg and feed cost eggs. Feeding 3.0 4.5 and 6.0 percent crude tuna oil were found to decrease yolk colour (P.01). Sensory evaluation evaluation of fishy taint was also detected at 6.0 percent crude tuna oil eggs.
