Plant growth, flowering and yield components of Cleome spinosa were studied at Maejo University, Chiang Mai during 24 October 1994 and May 1995. Plant growth was slow during the 3 weeks after planting (WAP). Maximum plant growth was recorded during 5-9 WAP. Plant at 11 WAP was 72.5 +- 0.3 cm high, 62.6 +- 0.2 cm wide, root was 35.5 +- 0.2 cm long and 41.1 +- 0.2 cm wide, had 142.9 +- 0.3 leaves 20.3 +- 0.2 brances. Dry weight of stem, root, branches, leaves, flowers and pods were 27.1 +- 0.1, 17.7 +- 0.2, 28.3 +- 0.2, 16.9 +- 0.1, 15.7 +- 0.2 and 0.9 +- 0.03 g respectively. Flower bud appeared at 34 days after planting. First flowering was recorded 13 days later, 5.6 +- 0.1 flowers were opened every day and took 33.3 +- 0.3 days to complete the whole inflorescence (185.1 +- 2.8 flowers). Two third of flowers at the base of the inflorescence were the major seed sites (93 percent of total seed yield). Potential seed yield was 16.05 g per inflorescence recorded at 46 days after first flowering because of the highest pods per plant. However actual seed yield was only 6.79 g/ at 41 days after first flowering and depend on seed numbers per pod. Delay harvest for 5 days caused 36 percent yield loss due to shattering.
