[Research and development of small 4 wheeled tractor]

Purpose of this research and development is to attain the prototype of a suitable small 4 wheeled tractor which be able to be operated by women, children and old people. These people can not operate the common 2-wheeled tractor, since it is too heavy which required strong man to operate. Futhermore, the tractor can help to alleviate the lack of farm labour according to the growth of industrial sector which absorbs a lot of working age labour. Research and development is not only to the prototype tractor itself, it also covered to other aspects especially in tractor manufacturing in order assure tractor production with low cost is possible. Production process of local manufacture, availability of raw materials, standard parts, including problems of small 4-wheeled tractor in the past had been considered in the research and development in order to get a reasonable cost and better quality of tractor. The 8 hp gasoline engine was assigned as prime mover of the tractor for easier in manual starting comparing with expensive and hard starting diesel engine. The prototype tractor consists of 4 forward and reverse transmission system, with the rated engine speed of 2700 r.p.m. the travelling speed is varied from 2.25 to 11.8 kmh. Max drawbar power tested in the one month after harvesting paddy field was 1.45 kW with the draf of 1.41 kN. The three points hitch linkage is compatible with category lN in ISO system. Lifting and lowering is powered by double acting hydraulic cylinder which provides weight transfer from tractor body to implement for a better soil penetration with two speed P.T.O. pf 530 and 1570 r.p.m. pemits variors dinds of implement can be used with this tractor such as plough, rotary tiller, harrow, planter mower and trailer etc. All these implements are under design and testing with this tractor. It will be reported in 1995.
