Translocation and residue of dieldrin in soil and high oil corn (Zea mays L.)

Dieldrin 50 percent WP at the rate of 0, 1, 10, 20 and 40 gm/20 litres of water were applied with seeds of high oil corn, variety AHO 19-1-4 (Alexho), at Bangkhen clay soil in each hill of 100 cubic cm and the application of dieldrin was sprayed again at 30 days after planting. The aerial parts of the plants were analysed the residue by gas liquid chromatography after harvesting. The result revealed that the influence of the concentration of dieldrin to the residues in various parts of the corn plant was so apparent that the higher the concentration, the higher the amount of residues in the leaves and stems. In general, the result showed by stems, husks, kernels and cobs, respectively. The concentration of 40 gm/20 litres of water resulted the residuer found in leaves, stems, husks, kernels and cobs were 1.11, 0.74, 0.03, 0.02 and 0.01 ppm respectively. The corn oil was higher corresponding to the increase of the application rate. The average of the highest residues in the corn oil found at the concentration of 40 gm/20 litres of water was 0.46 ppm, and it was only 0.19 ppm at the rate of 1 gm/20 litres of water. At the rates of 1, 10 and 20 gm/litres of water resulted residue in cobs lower than the tolerant level given by FAO and WHO which was only 0.02 ppm. The analysis of dieldrin in soils after havesting appeared to be higher than before planting. The average of dieldrin residue was 0.575 ppm.
