Evaluation of the genetic stability of rice lines created via tissue culture of Khao Dawk Mali 105 rice variety and mot bui rice variety

The experiments were carried out in two rice crops: winter - spring 97 - 98 and winter - spring 98 - 99 (from November, 1997 to May, 1999) at the experimental area of the Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute on twenty lines of SC4 generation selected from Khao Dawk Mali (KDM) - a Thai exported aromatic rice variety and 20 lines of SC3 generation from Mot Bui (MB) - a traditional rice variety with good grain quality. Experimental results are summarized as follows: There are 2 promissing lines SC6 KDM and 2 promissing lines SC5 MB had high yield potential (greater 20 gr/hill), short growth duration (95 - 104 day) and short plant stature (91-96 cm). These rice lines met the criteria for exported rice quality. Evaluation for resistance to brown planthopper (seed box method) and rice blast resistance (in dry bed) revealed several lines resistance to brown planthopper resistant lines such as KDM 25 - 2 - 6 - 10 - 25 - 2, MB 65 - 14 - 9 - 21 - 3, MB 65 - 5 - 9 - 24 - 4 and lines resistant to blast such KDM 29 - 6 - 18 - 21 - 6 - 6, KDM 31 - 16 - 17 - 23 - 16 - 8, MB 65 - 22 - 5 - 8 - 7, MB 65 - 3 - 8 - 12 - 8... When considering the variability of lines (CV and Sd) in each crop and testing "t" on 75 hills /line/generation, the results showed that SC lines were genetically stable in the rice crop and a lot of lines genetically stable through two generations. Correlation analysis and path analysis showed that we should select SC lines with high number of panicles/hill (priority) and with high number of filled grains/panicle in order to obtain high yield.
