Institutional strengthening of the water sector in the Republic of Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina) is analyzed concerning aspects, as follows: legal, istitutional, human resources, financial resources and water quality. The Institute for Water Bijeljina (The Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina) analyzed the aspect of the water quality. The major tasks were: 1) legal and institutional framework for the water quality analyses; 2) water quality characteristics of the main rivers in the Republic of Sprska; 3) possibilities for participation of private sector in the Water Sector in the Republic of Srpska; 4) public participation in the Water Quality Management in the Republic of Srpska. Proposed is a model of the Water Quality Management taking the river basin bodies (RBB) for the 6 main watersheds, as follows: Drina, Bosna, Una/Sana, flow to the river Sava, Trebisnjica and Vrbas.
