During the eight seasons (1993-2000), occurrence, number and harmfulness of leaf miners were investigated on 118 vegetable plants in Yugoslavia. Leaf miners were proved on 63 species of vegetable crops (53.39% of investigated species). According to the results of so far investigations, the largest numbers of leaf miners inhabited the plants of the genera: Brassica (11), Sinapis (8), Lactuca (7) and Amaranthus, Atriplex, Beta, Raphanus and Taraxacum (6 species of leaf miners each). All plants from one genus are not inhabited by the same leaf miner species (e.g. Allium, Brassica, Phaseolus, Solanum, etc.). During the investigation, 32 leaf miner species were proved, from 3 orders, 9 families and 10 genera. The largest number of the proved species belonged to the order Diptera (19 species, or 59.37%). Something over one quarter of the proved species (8 species or 25.00%), belonged to the order Coleoptera, and 5 species (15.62%) to Lepidoptera. Diptera (19) were represented by the species from 3 families and 10 genara. The family Agromyzidae had the largest number of the species (11 species, or 57.89%), while Muscidae had six (31.58%), and Trypetidae two species (10.53%). Then follows: Coleoptera (8 species or 25.00%) from two families and four genera. The representatives of the family of Curculionidae which is represented with seven species (75.00%) belonging to two genera.
