Over two years, the effect of the increasing rates of nitrogen and exploitation phase on the forage and spring crop of oats seed cv. Rajac yield and quality were monitored at the planting of the Faculty of Agronomy, Cacak (Serbia, Yugoslavia). The trial included the following fertilization variants: control - without fertilization; N1 - 30 kg/ha; N2 - 60 kg/ha; N3 - 90 kg/ha and 75 kg/ha P and K. Since oats can be used both as a seed and as bulk, the samples were taken in three phenophases: in the phase of flowering, milky ripening and full seed ripening. Dry matter content, seed yield and crude proteins by phenophases were determined. The lowest increase in dry matter (3.77 t/ha and 6.22 t/ha) and seed (3.65 t/ha) was obtained with control. The fertilization with N resulted in the increase in oats yield in all the phases of exploitation. A certain decrease in protein content is recorded with the plant growth. The application of higher N amounts resulted in increase in crude proteins both in the plant and seed. The highest protein content was registered with 90 kg of N/ha (13.23%).
