The article includes a historical survey of Colorado potato beetle control and resistance to insecticides both globally and in Yugoslavia, and deals with mechanisms of resistance, detection and monitoring of population susceptibility or resistance to insecticides. It proceeds to discuss the need of changing the existing control strategy and ways of slowing down the development of resistance by rational use of insecticides and employment of some alternative methods that are part of the integrated management concept in controlling the species populations.
