During three years period of utilization by cutting, genetic potential for dry matter production of monocultures and mixtures Yugoslav cultivars of perennial grasses and legumes was investigated. Researches include perennial grasses: Lolium italicum, tall fescue and orchard grass and legumes, red and white clover. In grass-legumes mixtures white and red clover participation is 20% and 30%, respectively. In the first year, the highest total dry matter yield was achieved in mixture of Lolium italicum with clover, 8.33 t/ha and with red clover 7.92 t/ha, while white clover as monoculture had the lowest yield, 4.78 t/ha. In second year dry matter production of all crops makes more than 50% of three years production. The highest yield was in mixture of tall fescue with red and white clover, 16.67 and 15.92 t/ha, respectively, and the lowest in mixture of Lolium italicum with white clover, 8.80 t/ha. In third year, we got only one cut because of very low precipitation level. Crude protein content is lower than red and white clover genetic potential of examined cultivars, because all mixtures and monocultures were cut depending of grasses' phenophase.
