Orally administered enzymes in the nutrition of poultry
2002
Broz, J. (Roche Vitamins Ltd, Basel (Switzerland). Animal Nutrition and Health R and D)
Scientific background of the use of enzymes as a new group of feed additives in poultry nutrition is briefly explained. Recent experimental findings have confirmed that enzymes degrading non-starch polysaccharides not only improve the nutritive value of some cereals, but may also have favourable effects on the composition of intestinal microbial flora in broiler chickens. Enhancing effects of oral administration of microbial phytase on bioavailability of phytate phosphorus from plant feeds, which can significantly contribute to the reduction of environmental pollution, are discussed.
