Physical and mechanical properties of soil affecting energy capacity of its tillage

The basic physical and mechanical properties of soil that influence energy capacity of its tillage, which manifests itself in the draft resistance of tillage machines, are soil hardness, its density and slip resistance along the operating parts. Its slip resistance is determined by the friction coefficient between soil and the operating parts, as well as the specific adhesion of soil. Soil hardness affects the strip cutting resistance, friction and adhesion - the resistance caused by soil gravity and inertia forces. It was found out during the investigations that the physical and mechanical properties of soil are dependent on the mechanical composition of soil, its moisture and the way of its utilisation. They may vary within a wide range. Adhesion is influenced by temperature too. The resistance due to friction and adhesion varies depending on the soil slipping speed along the operating parts of machines - it decreases when the speed grows. The research clarified the characteristics of the physical and mechanical properties and the regularities of their variations affecting the operation of tillage machines and energy capacity of tillage
