Virus infection of tobacco varieties on the North-Eastern part of Hungary

In the summer and autumn of the year 2000 leaf samples of tobacco, showing severe virus symptoms were collected on the North-eastern part of Hungary from three tobacco varieties (Hevesi 9, Pallagi 3, Pallagi 4). Symptoms were very variable due to virus infection. The occurence of potato Y potyvirus (PVY) was the most common (47% of the samples contained PVY), followed by tobacco mosaic tobamovirus (TMV), tomato spotted wilt tospovirus (TSWV) and cucumber mosaic cucumovirus (CMV). The incidence of the complex infection was 24%.
