Individual treeshelters have been widely adopted by Silviculturist (especially in Europe and in England). Besides the physical protection against herbivorous, they improve the tree height growth. Diameter growth is reduced however. We studied the influence of various levels of shelter ventilation and luminosity on the growth and transpiration of Mahoni (Swietenia macrophylla King). Both ventilation and high luminosity increase transpiration and the draught effect of a small hole at the bottom of the shelter is very effective. The strong positive impact of shelters on the tree height growth is confirmed. The impact of the various shelters on the diameter growth is still negative but ventilation improves it significantly. The temperature of inside air in individual treeshelters has a great importance for the growth. The thermal microclimate is descripted and discussed for shelters with and without a tree. The cooling of inside air is studied through an elementary model, based on the linearization of the heat and water balance. This falling temperature can be done by reducing the received radiation and increasing air exchanges
