Germination and seedling vigour of kodomillet as affected by allelopathy of Ipomoea Carnea jacq.
2000
Oudhia, P. (Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur (India). Department of Agronomy)
Allelopathic effects of Ipomoea carnea Jacq. on germination and seedling vigour of Kodomillet (Paspalum scrobiculatum) were investigated. Root, stem, leaf and stem + leaf of Ipomoea were cut into fine pieces, immersed in water and decayed for 24 hours in the ration of 1:10 (w/v). After decay, the extracts were prepared and applied on seeds of Kodomillet. The extracts of different parts of Ipomoea produced significant effect on germination and seedling vigour of Kodomillet. At 11 DAS, maximum germination was noted under control (water) that was at par with stem extract whereas leaf extract lowered the germination to the minimum. In case of root and shoot elongation, Ipomoea extracts showed positive (inhibitory) allelopathic effects. Root extract and stem extract resulted in lowest root and shoot elongation, respectively.
