Follicle stimulating hormone profile and its correlation with ovarian response, embryo recovery and quality of embryos in prostaglandin f2 alpha and syncro-mate-b with folltropin induced superovulated crossbred cows

Crossbred cows (16) were divided into PGF2 and SMB groups. The superoestrus was induced with PGF2 in PGF2 group and syncro-mate-B in SMB group. The superovulation was induced with folltropin. The embryos were collected nonsurgically. The number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transferable embryos were significantly (P0.01) higher in PGF2 group, whereas, the number of nontransferable embryos were significantly (P0.01) higher in SMB group. Norgestomer (SMB) decreased the secretory pattern of follicle stimulating hormone during theimplant period. The FSH concentration, on the day of initiation of superovulatory treatment, during the superovulatin and on the day of superoestrus was significantly (P0.01) higher in PGF2 group than that in SMB group. In PGF2 group, the FSH levels registered an increasing trend between FSH injections, whereas, such trend was not observed in SMB group. After the superoestrus, FSH did not show any significant difference between the groups. Norgestomet brings early onset, shorter duration and lower peak concentration of FSH surge than PGF2. In PGF2 group, the number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transferable embryos were significantly (P0.01 positively correlated with FSH concentration on the day of initiation and during the superovulatory treatment, and were nonsignificantly positivelhy correlated with FSH concentration on day 3 after super oestrus and on the day of embryo collection. Whereas in SMB group the number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transferable embryos were nonsignificantly positively correlated with FSH concentration in all the treatment days. In both the groups, the onset, duration and the peak concentration of FSH surge possess significant (P0.01) positive correlation with the number of ovulations and embryo recovery, but the relationship was stronger (P0.01) in PGF2 group and weaker (P0.01) in SMB group. The time interval between onset of superoestrus and FSH surge possess positive correlation with number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transferable embryos in both the groups, but the relationship was significant (P0.0.01) only in PGF2 group.
