Interaction between yellow vein mosaic virus and Meloidogyne incognita on growth of okra plants

An experiment was conducted during 1996-1997 to study the effect of interaction between yellow vein mosaic virus and Meloidogyne incognita on the growth of okra plants. The growth parameters, viz., plant height, number of fruits, fruit length, yield, root length and fresh and dry weight of root were reduced more in presence of both the pathogens than individual. Plant growth parameters except root length in combined inoculated plants were significantly different from the control and the treatment with nematode alone. However, they were at par with the treatment virus alone. Number of galls, egg masses and total nematode population in soil and roots were more, where plants were inoculated with nematode alone than that of combined inoculation, though they were at par. Maximum reporductive rate of nematode (6.53) was recorded in plants inoculated with nematode alone.
