Investigation on the prevalence of helminth parasites of wild animals in the thrissur zoo, Kerala

Investigation on the prevalence of helminthic infections among the wild mammals in captivity in the Thrissur zoo by faecal concentration method of centrifugation-cum-sedimentation technique showed overall prevalence of 68.05 % with highest prevalence in carnivores (75.34%) followed by herbivores (67.47%) and omnivores (65.35%). Strongyle, Strongyloides, Spirurid, Ascarid, Amphistome, Fasciola, Trichuris, Parascaris, Ancylostoma, Capillaria, Toxocara, Metagonimus, Artifechinostomum, Hymenolepis, Diphyllobothrium, Hymenolepis and Paragonimus were the helminths observed in the present study. The adult animals had higher prevalence (70.50%) than younger animals (54%).
