A study was undertaken to assess the relationship between certain reproductive traits like gestation length and dams parity and the calf mortality in calves from their birth to 12 months of age in cattle and buffaloes maintained at different livestock farms in Andhra Pradesh. The gestation legnth had a significant (P 0.01) effect on calf mortality in Jersey 3/4 J x 1/4 O and in one of the Ongole herd. In cattle, significantly (P 0.01) more foetal deaths were observed in cows calved less than 265 days and after 286 days of gestation period. In buffaloes also, the effect was found to be significant (P 0.01). In both cattle and buffaloes, significantly highest calf mortality was observed in first and seventh and above culvers.
