Bangladesh Agricultural Research Inst. (BARI), a public sector and Grameen Krishi Foundation (GKF), a private organization have been working jointly since 1995 through a collaborative programme in the North-West part of Bangladesh. The main objectives of the programme are to introduced modern technologies in the regional cultivation systems and to increase production of different crops. BARI has generated a number of improved agricultural technologies, but it has very limited scope to transfer these technologies to the end users i.e. farmers. GKF is providing quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation facilities etc. to the farmers through credit programme to boost up the production. It is also ensuring marketing facilities of the farm produces. It is a fact that none of BARI and GKF can help the farmers independently to increase the production. BARI is providing technical assistance through direct supervision in the programme. Through this collaborative efforts most of the farmers of this region have already been acquainted with the improved technologies developed by BARI and other research institutes of Bangladesh. Accordingly, the farmers are now using these improved technologies in their farming. They are also producing quality seed to different crops which are being used by other farmers in the country. Usage of quality inputs with the integration of technical support and ensurance of marketing for the produce attracted the attention of the farmers. Thus, the collaborative efforts between the two partner organizations succeeded to develop an opportunity to boost the yield and economic production in the region, ultimately providing a positive impact on national gross domestic product (GDP)
