Value of water hyacinth as silage
2001
Agrupia, F.M.
Of three different kinds of silage, water hyacinth had the lowest temperature. Para grass silage had the lowest moisture content and so was richest in dry matter. Water hyacinth silage was the most succulent and so was lowest in dry matter. The Paragrass and water hyacinth mixture had the best calcium-phosphorous ratio and the highest yield of silage. The daily average consumption of Red Sindhi cows used in the experiment was 11.13 kg of Paragrass silage, 12.83 kg of the mixture of Paragrass and water hyacinth silage, and 15.33 kg of water hyacinth silage. The average silage consumption for every 100 kilograms live weight was 5.51 kg of Paragrass silage, 6.37 kg of the mixture of Paragrass and water hyacinth silage, and 7.35 kg of water hyacinth silage.
