Effects of resorcyclic acid lactone (RALGRO) on weight gain rate of dairy bull calves

Twenty two male calves were used in the experiment consisting of 11 control and 11 RALGRD (resorcyclic acid)-treated animals. Both groups received the same amount of ration, vitamin supplements and the same environment conditions: and weights were progressively noted for 12 weeks. The primary object of the study was to determine the effect of resorcyclic acid lactone (RAL), an anabolic hormone, in the weight gain rate of dairy bull calves. Results showed that RALGRO-implanted animals during birth, exhibit higher weight gain rate following statistical tests and analysis using range analysis. T-test, coefficient of variation analysis and regression of coefficient. It was concluded from the study that RALGRO took its effect on the eight week (P0.0487) implying that anabolic hormone, i.e. RALGRO, could be used as growth promotants in dairy bull calves (or beef cattle) under local conditions, which could eventually be utilized to increase the productivity of stock in terms of meat.
