Closer look at the DTRI [Dairy Training and Research Inst., College, Laguna, Philippines] bull dispersal scheme

On the whole, the results indicate that the Dairy Bull Dispersal Scheme can contribute to the over-all upgrading efforts. There were cows served, successful pregnancies and actual deliveries. Furthermore, the numbers are increasing. The performance, however, could have been much better. The constraint mentioned earlier-recalls/returns, primarily-affected the number of animals that could have been bred. For upgrading through bulls, therefore, there are rays of hope; also clouds which dim the horizons. The hope is in having established the fact that dairy bulls can do "it" better-in numbers, for now at least; the clouds are the constraints which plagued the scheme; recalls/returns and short caretaking periods. The need is therefore, an arrangement with longer caretaking period. On the "mix" of an animal-based strategy and the human-based mechanics to implement the strategy
