Acid protease from Monascus sp BIOTECH 3064 and other microbial enzymes as feed additive in broiler diets

Acid protease produced by Monascus sp. BIOTECH 3064 using solid substrate fermentation as well as other microbial enzymes such as amylase and lipase were tested as feed additive in broiler diet to determine the effect of these enzymes on the performance of broilers. Results showed that protease, either used singly or in combination with amylase and lipase notably improved the performance of broilers as indicated by significantly higher body weight gain and better feed efficiency compared to the control. Lipase or amylase alone on the other hand, had no significant effect. The present inclusion levels of protease and other enzymes tested was still too high to elicit encouraging income over feed and chick cost (I0 FCC) despite their impressive performance. Furthermore feeding trials using inclusion levels to as low as 0.05% that will give adequate performance and the highest attainable I0 FCC need to be conducted
