The analysis of the cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) in the wastewater of Crystal Sugar Company, Inc., North Poblacion, Maramag, Bukidnon [Philippines] was conducted for the first time from January to February 2001. Wastewater samples were taken from three sampling stations and sampling was done twice. Wastewater samples were digested in the Chemistry Laboratory and sent to the Environmental Management Bureau, Department of Environment and Natural Resources [DENR], Caraga Region, Butuan City for analysis using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and Spectroquant. Results of the analysis showed the following mean values: cadmium, 0.004 ppm; copper, 0.018 ppm; lead, 0.003 ppm; and chromium, non-detectable (ND). Metal concentrations in all sampling periods and sampling stations passed the standards set by the (DENR) and by the U.S. Environmental Protetion Agency (EPA). It was concluded that the concentrations of metals were within tolerable levels based on the said standards
