Effect of intensity and technique of feeding of pre-calving dairy cows on incidence of ketobodies and glycemia after calving

We studied the occurrence and intensity of primary ketosis after calving in experiments aimed at study of the effect of different intensity and technique of feeding on preparation for lactation and efficiency after calving in first-calf cows and milk cows. The overproduction of ketobodies occurred in all groups of animals at the beginning of lactation. They exceeded the values 1.5 mmol/l in blood, 2.5 mmol/l in urine, 0.1 mmol/l in milk. The highest level of ketobodies in blood (1.89-), in urine (5.50-) and in milk (0.33 mmol/l) was found in the group of first-calf cows which was fed no concentrates before calving and it confirmed the presupposition that it was not sufficiently prepared for milk production at the beginning of lactation. The values of ketobodies normalized on the level 1 mmol/l in blood, 1.5 mmol/l in urine and 0.05 mmol/l in milk of experimental animals after 10 weeks of lactation. The content of glucosis returned to the physiological level 2.5 - 3 mmol/l after the minimum related to the increase of ketobodies level passed. During the minimum fel the glucose content in blood below 2 mmol/l, the greatest decrease (to 1.67 mmol/l) was noticed in the group of first-calf cows with the greatest consumption of concentrates before calving. With regard to the correlation between ketobodies content in blood and milk (R2=0.38) we can estimate the ketotic state of milk cows also on the basis of ketobodies in milk, which is important from the viewpoint of sensorial quality of milk as well
