In 1996-1998 a field trial was conducted on seminatural sward at Radvan site (near Banska Bystrica, central part of the Slovak Republic) to study yield, botanical composition and forage quality of overdrilled grass sward. The untreated sward (variant 1, control) was compared with swards overdrilled in strips by grasses (Lolium perenne, Festuca pratensi and Dactylis glomerata) and clover (Trifolium pratense) using the drill Power-Till Seeder 1550. The drill has made a strip of 50 mm width and 30 mm depth with a row distance of 200 mm. Overdrilling took place in two dates-early spring date (April) and after the 1st cut (end of May). Swards were under three cuts regimes. Overdrilled swards significantly overyielded the untreated one (control) in dry matter production. Botanical composition changed according to overdrilled species. Changes in botanical composition influenced chemical composition of the swards and their quality. One kilogram of untreated and overdrilled swards dry matter contained in average 153.4 g and 153.8 - 171.4 g crude protein. Content of crude protein was not influenced by different dates of overdrilling. Crude fibre of untreated and overdrilled swards was 231.4 and 196.0 g.kg-1. Untreated sward developed faster and thus its crude fibre content was higher. Overdrilled swards produced dry matter of the higher phosphor and potassium concentrations. Calcium concentration also increased by overdrilling. Its concentration in untreated, overdrilled by grasses, and by red clover oversown sward was 11.6 - 12.0 - 14.5 g Ca.kg-1. The influence of oversown red clover and grasses were manifested in increasing of yield and nutrition amount and forage quality improving. Recommended term for oversowing is an early spring (April, also late May till early June (term suitable for mountain regions)
