On seminatural grassland (antoxantho-agrostietum) in sub-mountain region of Central Slovakia which was influenced 12 years by application of mineral fertilization the cessation of fertilization was studied over two years on growth process and dry matter yield. Residual influence of earlier applied nitrogen was confirmed on leaf area index (LAI) and net assimilation rate (NAR). In treatment with previous rates 150 and 300 kg N/ha (N150 a N300) a positive influence of residual nitrogen on LAI and NAR was confirmed in 1st and 3rd cut of first year of fertilization cessation. In 2nd years this influence was diminishing. Similar tendency was confirmed for dry matter yield which was in 1st year of cessation higher by 10.1 and 11.9%, but in the 2nd year was equal to control treatment. In treatment N300 dry matter yield was lower by 11%
