The paper contains the results of the investigation of one of important periods in the development of forestry in Slovakia from 1871 to 1948. It is the period, when the organization of forestry secessed from that of mining industry. The paper specifically focuses on the central Slovakian region, where large forest complexes had been under the competence of the Directorate of State forests and estates in Banska Bystrica for a long time
