Etiology was studied to detect the causal organism of sugarcane grassy shoot-like syndrome in Thailand. Electron microscopy revealed mycoplasma-like organism in the ultrathin section of symptom plant. ELISA test with white leaf MLO antiserum showed either positive and negative. The result suggested that MLO possibly associated with sugarcane grassy-shoot like syndrome. It was also shown that the disease could transmitted through cane setts of U-thong 1 variety upto 87.5 percent. The disease affected yield and quality of sugarcane. Study in the naturally infected field indicated negative correlation between severity and brix, pol, CCS and yield (-0.774, -0.807, -0.714, -0.617). Reduction of 0.5 Pol occurred when severity rose up one level (Y = 15.506-0.69 (X): Y = Pol: X = Severity: R = 0.72).
