Selection of anthracnose resistant line

Anthracnose and red rot caused by Colletotrichum graminicola (Cesati) Wilson. generally found in Thai Hegari sorghum grown in rainy season. The infection can cause yield loss significantly in some season. In 1995, 38 resistant maintainer from ICRISAT. India, were introduced to select at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center. It was found that, most of them were relatively late maturity, short plant type and moderately resistant to foliar diseases and insect damage. Eighteen lines were selected for crop improvement through breeding approach, and 17 lines were collected as anthracnose resistant source.
