[Special features of Ukrainian Steppe bees families development and keeping in bee hives of diverse constructions]
2001
Budnyk, O.V.
The dynamics of development and productivity of Ukrainian steppe bees' families was studied under conditions of keeping them in hives of diverse design. Three groups of families were formed in the following hives: long hives, improved fixed comb hives (for 20 frames), Ukrainian long hives and double-storey ones. Keeping conditions were the same, the families observed were of the same strength and age. The special features of development were determined based on the winter feed consumption, a temperature in different points of a cloud ranged from +10.63 to 17.3 deg C; bees families wintering which was approximately 96 %; honey productivity and pollen gathering. No significant effect on bee families keeping and development was observed according to these indices. Bringing nectar and closing the honey is stated to significantly differ in the double-storey hives, wherein the nest is placed vertically, and the best increase in basic honey gathering was revealed in the long hives
