The Grower's Guide is a comprehensive Internet based guide to sugar beet growing in the UK in the 2000's. Use of the Internet allows the information contained in the Guide to be updated regularly to reflect new research findings and changes in best practice and advice. The content is separated into 25 subject areas, each subdivided into 3 levels: Advice, Encyclopaedia and Reference. The Advice level contains the most pertinent advisory information for the sugar beet grower in a concise format. The Encyclopaedia level contains more detailed information. The Reference level contains links and references to original sources and scientific articles. Throughout the Guide there are links to other Internet sites that contain relevant information. Although Internet based, it will also be available as a CD-ROM and as a booklet. The CD-ROM will contain the 'DESSAC' (Decision and Encyclopaedic Support System for Arable Crops) program, with the Grower's Guide as an encyclopaedic component. This allows future integration of sugar beet information into this decision support system. The printed version will be produced using a 'Docutech' system but it is anticipated the demand for the booklet version will diminish over time.
