2000

A survey in the IIRB study group "weed control" on changes in herbicide application in sugar beet between 1980 and 1998 resulted in: The number of possibilities to control weeds in beet has increased. With a shifting of herbicide applications to the time after the emergence of weeds and beet, the frequency of sprayings increased. In the same time the quantity of herbicides per hectare decreased generally. A shift in the weed spectrum could be observed; this must also be seen in a context of changes in crop rotation, reduction of ploughed area and reduced application of soil herbicides. The legal constraints for the application of herbicides have also been sharpened, especially concerning the protection of the user and of the environment.
