After a review of the botanical characteristics, with illustrated keys, of seven species of Stewartia hardy in Belgium, the author provides an overview of his experience in germinating seed and growing cuttings of the various species. Horticultural factors and landscape usage are discussed; mention is made of several selections and hybrids; three new selections are described: Stewartia pseudocamellia 'Harold Hillier', Stewartia sinensis 'Panache' and Stewartia 'Purple Lance'.
