[Some informations about Liriodendron tulipifera, L. chinense and its hybrids [Belgium]]

Together with a detailed review of the literature and author observations, a key for the determination of the species in the genus Liriodendron has been developed on the basis of vegetative characteristics. The importance of the pubescence of the leaf and form of the petiole are discussed. The presence of Liriodendron chinense and its hybrid with Liriodendron tulipifera in Belgian botanical collections and the discovery of a spontaneous hybrid at the botanical garden of Meise are documented. Both phenological characteristics and the importance of the origin of the specimen of Liriodendron chinense are discussed : this has lead to the suggestion that there may be two different types of Liriodendron chinense in cultivation.
