The "Landwirtschaftlicher Informationsdienst Zucker-rube" (LIZ)* develops sientific based and practical orientated decisive aids regarding all questions of sugar beet cultivation. Crop cultivation and economic management are the main topics. Concerning with herbicide treatment the PC-program "LIZ-Herbicide" optimises the selection of herbicides incl. mixtures and application rates. After data input of weed species, growth stages and current treatment conditions (clouding, site) the program delivers a precise proposal with comments for herbicide treatment. In addition the sensitivity of plants, the aggressivity of herbicides and the cost of products are valuated. In a futher step it is possible to create alternative mixtures of herbicides based on the same level of active ingredients. Finally the user is able to calculate the total demand for the complete spray sequence (pre-emergence and multiple post-emergent treatments) related to specific soil and weather conditions. In practical appliance since 1995, the program is annually renewed and in steady conceptional development. The program can be used by phone calls, it is available as software program or can be taken from the internet. Refering to the different situation of registration and admission of herbicides actually a german and polish version are offered.
