Starting a new system of communication in the field of Hungarian sugarbeet production

Due to development of information society new methods can be used in the Hungarian agriculture too. The sugar beet production as one of the most capital-intensive agricultural activity and susceptible to the new technologies. In proof of this the GPS, aerial and satelit photo based methods have been used since years in agrotechnical research of sugarbeet in Hungary. For better and quicker advisory and education activity in 2000 a new computer based information and communication system was started by BETA-KUTATO Ltd in Sopronhorpacs. Because most of the Hungarian farmers have fax machine a fax based 24 hour service was made for them. (The fax number: 36-99-533-573.) Althogh looking ahead the internet version of this system was initiated on the web site of BETA-KUTATO as well (www.betakutato.matav.hu). Next to the current information (up to date data of soil temperatures for different sugarbeet growing regions of Hungary during sowing period, data of Cercospora beticola forecasting made by the Institut, ect.) advisory charts and maps give help to the efficient work (variety choosing, herbicide, fungicide, insecticide using, ect.). The development was made with the support of Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture.
