[Ecological problems and ways of their decision in swamp reclamation]

Economic and social development of Belarus has been greatly hindered by the large area (65,8%) of swampy lands. Due to excessive soil moistening land users usually lose up to 40% of grain yield on lands without water control. Reasonable reclamation assures high land productivity and allows the area of agricultural lands withdrawn for industrial and highway engineering to be compensated for. At the same time, consideration must be given to the fact that hydromelioration of natural components may not only lead to land improvement but drastically transforms water, temperature, and agrochemical regimes in the territories, as well as cause far-reaching changes in spatial structure and appearance of landscapes
