[Genetic trends of useful traits in swine mother breeds]
2001
Wolf, J. | Wolfova, M. (Vyzkumny Ustav Zivocisne Vyroby, Prague (Czech Republic))
The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of multiple traits animal model for estimation of breeding values of pigs of mother breeds (Large White and Landrace) in the Czech Republic during the period from 1990 to 2000. The traits major lean meat cuts, weight gains, number of piglets born alive in the first litter, number of piglets born alive in the second and other litters as well as the total breeding value showed increasing genetic or phenotypic trends in both breeds. The increase for most of the studied traits and for the total breeding value was higher in Landrace than in Large White pigs. The introduction of multiple traits animal model thus had a highly positive influence on the improvement of the breeding value of the two mother breeds.
