Extensive deforestation or conversion of permanent grasslands to arable land cause destabilization of ecosystems in the watershed, fluctuations of runoffs, posing a greater threat of extreme hydrological phenomena - e.g. flood episodes. This phenomenon is very serious in watersheds of water-supply reservoirs because it usually has direct impacts on water quality in the reservoir due to its silting, surface runoff of solutes and fluctuations of flow rates in tributaries. As a part of the proposal of revision of water protection zones of Nova Rise (Czech Republic) water-supply reservoir the watershed retention was analyzed for the conditions of present management and for the conditions after protective measures involving the delimitation of land types in localities with imminent erosion were proposed.
