In the intact or excised nodules of robinia (Robinia pseudoacacia L.), the activity of nitrogenase has been calculated. In the present study, we proposed to determine the most functionnal part of the nodules among the apical, medial and basal parts. The result is that the differents parts participate in the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen, although the apical part had a higher activity than the other parts. In addition to this, the nitrogenase activity of median nodules with diameter above 1 cm was higher than that of small nodules less than 1 cm
