The situation of market-gardener smallholdings in Hungary as reflected by a survey
2002
Horvath, Z.
In the era preceding the change of economic-social regime, farming on a large scale was characteristic in the Hungarian fruit and vegetables sector. As a contrary to the former co-operative farm production, nowadays a larger proportion of goods is produced by separated, self-supporting smallholdings, the continuance and strengthening of which is of vital economic and social interest. Under the present circumstances, due to insufficient farming proportions and a draw-back in the competition derived from it, small farms will be driven out from commodity production as well as supporting programs organized by the EU.
