Yield and ganoderma management through optimization of maintenance of oil palm root system

Field studies had been made to determine the effect of root maintenance on yield increment and Ganoderma control in oil palm. Ganoderma infection seemed to promote the proliferation of new feeding roots at the base of oil palm commonly at the healthy parts opposite to the infection sites. Aerial roots normally developed and grew well after filling the oil palm base with soil up to 30 cm in height. The rate of root development was observed much higher than the rate of the disease development. Mounding the oil palm base with soil was capable in extending the oil palm survival from disease infection and increasing the oil palm yield
